Salak or Snake Fruit (Salacca zalacca) is a species of the palm tree (family Arecaceae) native to Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. It is cultivated in other regions of Indonesia as a food crop and reportedly naturalized in Yogyakarta, Bali, Lombok, Timor, Maluku, and Sulawesi. The snake fruit taste is sweet with a little sour after taste. It’s crunchy like an apple but not as soft and it’s watery but not as watery as the pears.
